Time goes by very quickly in Chamonix with so much to try and get done but if you are looking for something else here are a few ideas

The Venice of the Alpes
Annecy

45 minutes from Chamonix by car Annecy is one of our closest and biggest towns – A lake nestled in the mountains it is truly spectacular. So much to do from great shopping and restaurants – The old town is full of little boutiques and lovely bistros. A cycle/rollerblade round the lake or just chill out time in the numerous beaches and lake side restaurants - a day in Annecy is always enjoyable no matter what you are looking for.

Re-energise yourself
Les Thermes de Pré-Saint-Didier

Through the Mont Blanc Tunnel in Italy (30 mins drive) lies the treasure that is the Pré-Saint-Didier.
Located in an ancient spa town with naturally heated water, this very old hotel has been recently renovated, and includes dozens of separate pools, saunas, hammams, and other rooms, both indoors and out, lit by candles at night this place is totally relaxing. To be avoided on Italian bank holiday weekends but otherwise pretty calm and not too busy. All sorts of massagers can also be booked in advance. Don't forget to eat a nice pizza before to get back in France !

Familly escapes
The adventure park of Contamines Montjoie

30 minutes from Chamonix, in the neighbouring valley this is the largest activity park in the Pays du Mont-Blanc.
Scattered all around the lake are numerous adventure activities: tennis, driving range, mini-golf, archery, biathlon, adventure parks, trampolines, stables and donkey trails, climbing and boats on the lakeas well as great restaurants – A day here is never long enough and the kids will come home happy and exhausted.

Go wild
Le plan d’eau Biotope de Combloux

Onl 25 minutes from Chamonix, ‘le lac Biotope de Combloux’ is one of the wonderful places to go on a hot day. Basically, bit of genius bio engineering has created the perfect lake with a swimmable area that has a sand floor and a separate are where the plants continuously filter and clean the water – it is pure, natural and lovely with a large grass bank and great restaurant showing off the amazing views it is a perfect spot for a day off.

Yeah haaa
Horse drawn carriages à Megève

Megève, is our very pretty neighbour
Luxury brand shopping and a charming way to visit the village with a ride in the traditional carriages.

To arms my friends!
Visit the medieval city d’Yvoire

Just over 1 hour away on the edge of the Lac Leman you can discover the 700-year-old medieval city. A bit of culture but great with the kids.

Fly away
The eagles of Lac Léman

At Sciez on the border of Lake Léman, 1h15 from Chamonix is a very cool bird park in a lovely setting, with over 200 birds of 70+ species. Regular shows amongst the best I have seen… a wonderful way to get close to and learn about these amazing birds.

D’art d’art !
La fondation Pierre Gianadda

Only 1 hour from Chamonix, if you are passionate about art and culture then the Fondation Pierre Gianadda, is an awesome gallery with shows by Rodin, Modigliani, Degas, Kandinsky, Van Gogh and Picasso.

The goats of Saint-Gervais
In the heart of Montjoie

On the old baroque path next to the lovely fishing lake of Vivier, between Saint-Gervais-les-Bains and Les Contamines Montjoie there is this great goat farm with 71 goats. The farm visits are terrific and educational and the products even better.
